Plusieurs édifices d’aspect et de vocation très différentes se sont succédés au fil des siècles. Au XIe siècle, c’est tout d’abord une véritable forteresse appelée le « Vieux Chastel » à l’intérieur des remparts, transformé au XIVe siècle en résidence pour les évêques-comtes de Dol. Devenu vétuste, ce château est remplacé en 1753-1754 par un nouveau palais finalement rasé en 1887. L’édifice actuel, construit en 1888 pour servir de collège, abrite depuis 1999 le Cathédraloscope, centre d’interprétation des cathédrales.

The sea is 9 km away, accessible by country roads. You can find popular large sandy beaches like in Hauteville-sur-Mer or Agon-Coutainville, or more wild beaches like in Annoville. At low tide, the sea recedes to leave 2 km of beach.

Siouville La Hague is one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Normandy. The on-site surf club rents boards and wetsuits for €20: www.cotentinsurfclub.com. We have a catamaran (newcat 16); if you practice, we can discuss it. Besides that, catamaran, stand-up paddle, and sand yachting rentals are available in Hauteville-sur-Mer.
