« Puisque nous ne disposons pas de ports, nous apporterons les nôtres. » Par ces quelques mots, Winston Churchill et Lord Mountbatten ont fait entrer Arromanches et son port artificiel dans la grande histoire du Débarquement allié du 6 juin 1944 qui allait libérer l’Europe et le monde. Depuis l’esplanade du musée ou depuis les hautes falaises qui dominent le port artificiel, les vestiges de ce gigantesque défi technologique reste aujourd’hui très visible sur ce site emblématique des plages de la Liberté.

Located 10 minutes from large sandy beaches and a few kilometers from major Norman destinations such as Mont St-Michel, the D-Day beaches, and the Chausey Islands, La Maison Folia enjoys an exceptional position. It offers you a multitude of activities:

• Nearby: Discover the beaches of Hauteville sur Mer, Montmartin sur mer and Annoville, the castle and salt marshes of Regneville-sur-Mer, the fishing port of Granville, the Agon point or the Chausey Islands.

• A bit further: Explore Mont St Michel, Utah Beach, Barneville-Carteret semaphore, Cap de la Hague and Nez de Jobourg, Tatihou Island, or the bells of Villedieu-les-Poêles.

What gives this area its strong distinctiveness is its coastal river, the Sienne, passing less than 1 km from La Maison Folia and joining the sea 10 km further. The village of Quettreville-sur-Sienne is 2 kilometers away, where you will find a bakery, doctor, pharmacy, tobacco shop, post office, bars restaurants…

The sea is 9 km away, accessible by country roads. You can find popular large sandy beaches like in Hauteville-sur-Mer or Agon-Coutainville, or more wild beaches like in Annoville. At low tide, the sea recedes to leave 2 km of beach.

Spend an unforgettable day with friends or family canoeing down the Sienne from Quettreville-sur-Sienne to the sea at Hauteville-sur-Mer. The Sienne descent begins between fields (2-hour journey), continues through the magnificent Sienne Estuary (2.5-hour journey), and ends in the sea at Hauteville-sur-Mer.

Surfing, Bodyboarding, and Water Sports
Siouville La Hague is one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Normandy. The on-site surf club rents boards and wetsuits for €20: www.cotentinsurfclub.com. We have a catamaran (newcat 16); if you practice, we can discuss it. Besides that, catamaran, stand-up paddle, and sand yachting rentals are available in Hauteville-sur-Mer.
