Fondée en 1629 pour une communauté de soeurs bénédictines, l'abbaye de Valognes reçoit un accueil enthousiaste de la population et obtient en 1646 un brevet de protection du roi Louis XIII. Suite à la Révolution de 1789, les soeurs sont expulsées et l'édifice est transformé en hôpital-hospice. Cet ensemble de l'âge baroque, organisé autour du cloître, présente une remarquable unité stylistique. Visites guidées suivant programmation du Pays d'art et d'histoire du Clos du Cotentin et sur réservation pour les groupes adultes et groupes scolaires. Actuel hôpital.

The sea is 9 km away, accessible by country roads. You can find popular large sandy beaches like in Hauteville-sur-Mer or Agon-Coutainville, or more wild beaches like in Annoville. At low tide, the sea recedes to leave 2 km of beach.

Siouville La Hague is one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Normandy. The on-site surf club rents boards and wetsuits for €20: www.cotentinsurfclub.com. We have a catamaran (newcat 16); if you practice, we can discuss it. Besides that, catamaran, stand-up paddle, and sand yachting rentals are available in Hauteville-sur-Mer.
