Le cap Lévi

Le cap Lévi

La falaise du cap Lévi, dont le nom est d'origine Viking, domine la mer et offre une vue magnifique sur la rade de Cherbourg. Ce cap est équipé d'un phare et d'un fort. Le premier est construit en 1854 afin d'éviter les naufrages et les incidents maritimes liés au développement du trafic vers le port de Cherbourg. Dynamité le 24 juin 1944 par l'armée allemande, il est remplacé en 1947 par le phare actuel. Édifié par Napoléon 1er, le fort fait partie des 12 construits entre la Hougue et la Hague et destinés à protéger Cherbourg. Il ne sera pas terminé et sera démilitarisé en 1875. Par la suite, il aura les fonctions de théâtre, puis de lieu de réception pour la clientèle de prestige de Félix Amiot, industriel local de la construction navale. Il est aujourd'hui transformé en chambres d'hôtes. (circuit n°3 "Le cap Lévi").

The sea is 9 km away, accessible by country roads. You can find popular large sandy beaches like in Hauteville-sur-Mer or Agon-Coutainville, or more wild beaches like in Annoville. At low tide, the sea recedes to leave 2 km of beach.

Siouville La Hague is one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Normandy. The on-site surf club rents boards and wetsuits for €20: www.cotentinsurfclub.com. We have a catamaran (newcat 16); if you practice, we can discuss it. Besides that, catamaran, stand-up paddle, and sand yachting rentals are available in Hauteville-sur-Mer.
