Saint-Lô fut, dès le Moyen Age, protégée par des murailles afin d’éviter les
invasions normandes. Ensuite fut construite la citadelle qui abritait à l’époque
un palais Episcopal. En 1812, une partie des remparts fut détruite afin de
développer la ville en dehors de l’enclos. Saint-Lô perd alors sa vocation
industrielle pour devenir un grand centre administratif avec la création du
palais de justice en 1823, la prison en 1824 et l’Hôtel de ville en 1849 le
long de la rue Carnot.

Located 10 minutes from large sandy beaches and a few kilometers from major Norman destinations such as Mont St-Michel, the D-Day beaches, and the Chausey Islands, La Maison Folia enjoys an exceptional position. It offers you a multitude of activities:

The sea is 9 km away, accessible by country roads. You can find popular large sandy beaches like in Hauteville-sur-Mer or Agon-Coutainville, or more wild beaches like in Annoville. At low tide, the sea recedes to leave 2 km of beach.

Siouville La Hague is one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Normandy. The on-site surf club rents boards and wetsuits for €20: www.cotentinsurfclub.com. We have a catamaran (newcat 16); if you practice, we can discuss it. Besides that, catamaran, stand-up paddle, and sand yachting rentals are available in Hauteville-sur-Mer.
