Au sommet de cette colline aux flancs abrupts qui surplombe les vallées de la Sienne et de la Bérence, se situent les ruines d'un ancien château médiéval. Ancien point stratégique dû à sa géographie entre Cotentin, Normandie et Bretagne, les Ducs de Normandie y implantèrent un château à vocation militaire. Témoin de la guerre de Cant Ans, il fu rapidement abandonné au XVIIe siècle. De nos jours, une association locale se charge de faire découvrir les vestiges de cette ancienne place forte dont il reste ne reste quasiment plus rien hormis ses fondations. Un parcours d'interprétation permet également de découvrir en autonomie les lieux. La vue tout en haut est à couper le souffle. www.chateaugavray.fr

The village of Quettreville-sur-Sienne is 2 kilometers away, where you will find a bakery, doctor, pharmacy, tobacco shop, post office, bars restaurants…

The sea is 9 km away, accessible by country roads. You can find popular large sandy beaches like in Hauteville-sur-Mer or Agon-Coutainville, or more wild beaches like in Annoville. At low tide, the sea recedes to leave 2 km of beach.

Spend an unforgettable day with friends or family canoeing down the Sienne from Quettreville-sur-Sienne to the sea at Hauteville-sur-Mer. The Sienne descent begins between fields (2-hour journey), continues through the magnificent Sienne Estuary (2.5-hour journey), and ends in the sea at Hauteville-sur-Mer.

Siouville La Hague is one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Normandy. The on-site surf club rents boards and wetsuits for €20: www.cotentinsurfclub.com. We have a catamaran (newcat 16); if you practice, we can discuss it. Besides that, catamaran, stand-up paddle, and sand yachting rentals are available in Hauteville-sur-Mer.
