A Dalbec, on a découvert les traces d'une route pavée romaine qui menait du moulin de Barnavast à Fermanville. L'étymologie de Dalbec est d'origine viking ; en effet, on retrouve la terminaison "bec" comme à Bricquebec ou Crabec, "bec" est issu du scandinave "bekkr" qui désigne un cours d'eau. Le préfixe "dal" signifie quant à lui "vallée". Dalbec peut donc se traduire "vallée du ruisseau". Le domaine devait être vaste et appartenir à un seigneur scandinave après la création de la Normandie en 911.
