A l'époque romaine, cette hauteur a été utilisée à l'époque romaine comme vigie et était nommée le "Grand Castel".
Au Moyen Age, elle a dû être transformée en château féodal. On y découvrit en 1788 plus de 80 médailles du Haut-empire. Vous découvrez face à vous la rade de Cherbourg, deuxième plus grande rade artificielle au monde. D'une superficie de 1 500 ha, sa construction commence en 1783; la digue centrale, quant à elle, a été achevée en 1853.

The sea is 9 km away, accessible by country roads. You can find popular large sandy beaches like in Hauteville-sur-Mer or Agon-Coutainville, or more wild beaches like in Annoville. At low tide, the sea recedes to leave 2 km of beach.

Siouville La Hague is one of the most beautiful surfing beaches in Normandy. The on-site surf club rents boards and wetsuits for €20: www.cotentinsurfclub.com. We have a catamaran (newcat 16); if you practice, we can discuss it. Besides that, catamaran, stand-up paddle, and sand yachting rentals are available in Hauteville-sur-Mer.
