In Lille, the waffle is not just a sweet treat—it’s a true institution. We all know Liège or Brussels waffles, but Lille’s waffles are well worth the detour too, especially when it comes to the legendary waffles from Maison Méert.
A Taste Journey Through Time
Since 1849, Maison Méert, nestled in the heart of Old Lille at 27 rue Esquermoise, has delighted taste buds with its oval-shaped waffle—thin, soft, and generously filled with a Madagascar vanilla cream. This recipe, passed down through generations, remains unchanged, preserving a truly unique craftsmanship. The shop itself is a gem, listed as a historic monument, where gilding and woodwork transport you to a bygone era.

A pop-up bar in the heart of Vieux Lille We stumbled upon a hidden gem in Old Lille: La Maison Paix Dieu. This private mansion turned pop-up bar welcomes you from Wednesday to Sunday, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. And on Saturdays, there’s a musical vibe with a live concert or a DJ set. A great opportunity to experience Lille from a different perspective!
Paix Dieu Nova: the beer that makes an impression What really won us over is their Paix Dieu Nova beer. Lighter than the classic tripel at 6%, yet it still packs that wonderfully hoppy taste we love. We tried it before taking a break, and it completely won our taste buds over! Perfect for those who want to enjoy a good brew without losing their head.
Pop-up Paix Dieu: a unique experience in Lille From May 28 to June 29, the Pop-up Paix Dieu takes place at 📍 105 rue Royale, 59800 Lille >> https://maps.app.goo.gl/XyLkTPTa9YKdFGsV9 A must-visit for anyone who loves places with charm and character—without overdoing it. At La Maison Fives, we dream of hosting a similar event: great beer, good music, and that little something that makes all the difference. In the meantime, we encourage you to check out this pop-up—it promises plenty of great surprises.
Just a stone’s throw from La Maison Fives, an astonishing sight greets us. Colorful and round, funny heads float in the air, adding a touch of whimsy to the neighborhood. These installations, known as “Happy Heads”, are the work of artists Benoît + Bo, and are located in the Passage de l’Internationale, a bustling spot in the Fives Cail district.
This artwork is part of the lille3000 event, which aims to energize art in the city and introduce unique creations to residents and visitors of Lille. The installation beautifully contrasts with the modern glass and steel architecture of this building, creating an atmosphere that is both disconcerting and captivating.
We strongly encourage you to come and see these colorful works that beautify our neighborhood. Take advantage of your visit to La Maison Fives to explore this creative corner of Lille, where art and hospitality meet in a warm atmosphere.
Don’t miss this artistic experience in the heart of Lille and discover how the Fives district is evolving and transforming!
