October morning, autumn settling in quietly. We love starting the day here, just south of Lille-Europe station, for a short run or a peaceful walk. Parc des Dondaines is one of our regular spots when we’re in Lille — and especially when we’re staying at La Maison Fives, our five-room hotel tucked into the Lille Fives Cail district.
Calm, green and a bit urban — the perfect mix
What we love here is this unique blend: nature and glass towers, stillness and business. It almost feels like a small Lillois version of Central Park. At 8am it’s still quiet — joggers passing by, a few cyclists, and sometimes people walking their dogs. And that makes a real difference: in many Lille parks, dogs aren’t allowed. Here at the Dondaines, they are welcome, and it really shows. Our border collie is obviously thrilled.

We also love how lively the area is: on the street side you’ll find our ceramic studio-shop and artistic creations — a space where gallery and shop come together. After a green walk at the Dondaines, stepping into the studio to see pieces in progress or chat with us is often the natural follow-up to the morning.

Parc des Dondaines is easy to access from Lille-Europe station and the city centre. Perfect for a nature break right in the heart of Lille Fives.
If you’re around for a weekend or a work trip, put your running shoes on at sunrise — we might cross paths. And if you prefer a slow walk, the morning stroll remains one of our favourite little rituals.
Sunday morning: luxury bags, a run, and a city on the move
We often pass by the Louis Vuitton boutique set inside the former Huitrière, just a few steps from the Hermès store. Once, people came here for oysters; now it’s for bags. Soula runs, Gapi trots along, and the city slowly wakes up on this quiet Sunday morning. It’s a small moment of everyday life we love sharing.
A look at a changing Lille
Some will tell you that Lille isn’t Lille anymore, that it’s becoming too trendy. We think it’s simply more diverse. The Vieux-Lille has become quite chic, the city centre keeps its balance, Wazemmes and Moulins hold on to their popular, lively soul, and Fives is clearly rising. And then there are all the more residential areas. In short, Lille is great.
La Maison Fives, right in the middle of it all
We imagined La Maison Fives as a meeting point: a five-room hotel, a contemporary guesthouse, a place of accommodation and everyday life anchored in the neighbourhood. On the ground floor, the shop and the ceramic studio, our small gallery, create a link between making and hosting — that balance between hospitality and creative work is what we love.
We love the energy of the neighbourhood
When we run in the morning, we see everything: the charm of the Old Town, the boutiques, the old factories being transformed, new cafés appearing. We like this balance between what was and what’s coming. And being just a few streets away from places that make noise, like the former Huitrière turning into a luxury store, tells a lot about a city reinventing itself.

Finding a restaurant for a group can be a real headache. Some people are vegetarian, some avoid gluten, others want pizza, meat, chips, a salad or Asian food. In the end, you mainly want to sit down and eat together.
Food courts make that easier: several cuisines, several counters and shared tables. Everyone chooses their meal, then you meet up. If you have an intolerance or allergy, check the ingredients and preparation arrangements with the counter you choose.
This format became widespread in North American shopping centres, particularly in the United States. We spent plenty of time in food courts in Montréal’s underground shopping galleries: large spaces, an impressive choice of cuisines, and the freedom to eat together without ordering the same thing.
Food courts are becoming more common in France too. Places open and close, and teams and counters change. The scene is still evolving. Here is our selection in Lille and the surrounding area, starting with Chaud Bouillon and Brasserie Fives Cail, right next to La Maison Fives.
Fives Cail: start just around the corner
Chaud Bouillon: a food hall in a lively neighbourhood
Chaud Bouillon is one of the places we recommend to guests arriving at La Maison Fives. You can walk there from the house, explore the former industrial halls, browse the counters and settle at a large table.
What we particularly enjoy is the atmosphere. You can come for lunch, meet friends or stay for an evening out. But Chaud Bouillon is more than a food court: it is part of life along the Passage de l’Internationale and throughout Fives Cail, with concerts, workshops, gatherings and plenty of events throughout the year.
This neighbourhood has a lot going on, and the hall contributes to that energy. Its community kitchen, professional kitchen and urban farm also support projects that go beyond a meal. It is a good starting point for discovering Fives.

Address: 70 Passage de l’Internationale, Lille. Hall: Wednesday noon–11 pm; Thursday to Saturday noon–midnight; Sunday noon–6 pm. Food counters: Wednesday to Saturday noon–2 pm and 7–10 pm; Sunday noon–2.30 pm. The hall can be open between services while the kitchens are closed.
The brewery is just opposite Chaud Bouillon and also very close to La Maison Fives. It is not a food court, but it belongs in our tour of the neighbourhood.
The beers are brewed on site, with the tanks forming part of the setting. Kombucha is also available on tap. For food, there are pizzas, focaccias, sharing platters and Welsh rarebit. It is an easy option for dinner nearby, or for starting the evening with a drink.
When the weather allows, the terrace is a good reason to linger. Concerts, DJ sets or live sports screenings can change the mood from one day to the next, so check the programme if you have a particular evening in mind.

This is a place we are happy to recommend in the city centre. Kitchen Market is inside the Les Tanneurs shopping gallery, with different cuisines around a central bar and tables where you can meet up.
We feel comfortable here, and it is handy when everyone wants something different. Each person looks around, chooses a meal and returns to the table. Between exploring Old Lille and browsing the shopping streets, it makes an easy lunch or dinner stop.
Take a few minutes to look at the menus before ordering. The counters change over time, so the menus displayed on site are the best guide to what suits your appetite and budget.
Address: Les Tanneurs shopping gallery, 27 Rue des Tanneurs, Lille. Opening: Monday to Saturday 11 am–11 pm; Sunday noon–5 pm. Kitchens: advertised to close one hour before the venue: 10 pm Monday to Saturday and 4 pm on Sunday.
We have not been there yet, but Quartier Général, or QG, deserves a place in this selection. On Rue d’Amiens, it brings together several cuisines in a smaller setting than the large food halls, spread over three levels.
The options include Italian and Lebanese food and bagels. You can share mezze or choose separate dishes. The venue also advertises events and brunches: worth looking into if you want to try somewhere new in the centre.
Address: 14 Rue d’Amiens, Lille, near Rihour metro station. Service: lunch and dinner depending on the day. Check current hours, brunch arrangements and any private events before visiting.
The JOST food court is on Rue Meurein, close to Gambetta metro station. Several cuisines share the ground floor, alongside a bar and an events programme.
It is an option if you want to stay after eating. Check what is happening on the day: lunch and a music night can have very different atmospheres. You can combine this stop with exploring Wazemmes, its shops and its market, depending on the day.
Address: 10 Rue Meurein, Lille. Opening: every day according to the venue’s website. Check food counter service times separately from the bar’s hours.
A little outside the city centre, B’Twin Village brings together cycling, sport, leisure and food. It is a good way to discover another side of Lille, especially as a family or with an activity planned.
Salad & Co lets you put together your own salad. Gorilla adds options for lunch, coffee or a snack. You can stop to eat, or build a visit around the village’s facilities.
And if you skate, there is another reason to go: the outdoor skatepark and its bowl. You can combine a session with a meal break, rather than crossing town just for lunch.

Address: 4 Rue du Professeur Langevin, Lille. Gorilla: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8.30 am–5.30 pm; Wednesday 8.30 am–6 pm; Friday 8.30 am–5 pm, according to B’Twin Village’s published hours. Salad & Co, the other restaurants, the shop and the riding areas have separate opening times. Check the space you plan to use.
Street food counters, bars, games and an events programme in a former industrial site. The terrace is a big part of the experience in good weather, and the food and atmosphere change with the seasons.
This is somewhere to spend a little time: eat, play, meet friends and stay into the evening.
Address: 26 Rue Félix-Faure, Saint-André-lez-Lille. Opening: Tuesday and Wednesday 5 pm–midnight; Thursday 5 pm–1 am; Friday and Saturday 5 pm–2 am; Sunday noon–11 pm. Closed Monday. Kitchen: evenings 7–10.30 pm, until 10 pm on Sunday; lunch service on days when the venue opens at noon.
Cageot brings the kitchens closer to the vegetable garden: some produce comes from crops grown on site. The venue combines street food, a bar, a terrace and games.
This detour may appeal if you enjoy understanding where your food comes from as much as choosing your dish. It is another approach to the food court, with growing food as the starting point.
Address: Aushopping site, Faches-Thumesnil. Closed Monday. Kitchen: Tuesday 7–10 pm; Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday noon–2 pm and 7–10 pm; Friday and Saturday noon–2 pm and 7–10.30 pm. The bar stays open later.
You may know this address as Les Halles de la Maillerie. Boxtown’s food court is now called Le Stock. It has four street food counters, a wine merchant and a central bar.
A stop to combine with exploring La Maillerie and the former 3 Suisses buildings. Food court hours are separate from those of the site’s other spaces.
Bécane combines food, a bar and motorcycle culture. Several restaurants share the industrial setting with specialist workshops. An option for a meal with motorcycle enthusiasts, or for discovering a venue that brings different activities together.
Address: 3 Avenue de la Marque, Villeneuve-d’Ascq. Restaurants: Monday to Thursday noon–2 pm and 7–10 pm; Friday noon–2 pm and 7–10.30 pm; Saturday 7–10.30 pm.
Le Couvent offers food, a bar and events at 128 Boulevard de Strasbourg. Check the programme before setting off: the evenings and activities advertised are part of planning your visit.
Another address to know is YUM Food Court, at 158 Boulevard Gambetta. Check the current operators and opening hours before making it your meal destination, as the available information is less detailed.
For a first evening near La Maison Fives, we suggest Chaud Bouillon or Brasserie Fives Cail. You can discover the neighbourhood on foot and stay close to your room.
For a day in the centre, Kitchen Market and Quartier Général fit easily into a walk. JOST makes a stop in Wazemmes, while B’Twin Village works well with a sporting or family outing. The venues outside Lille require an extra journey: choose them for the place itself and the opportunity to explore its surroundings.
A detail that avoids disappointment: an open bar does not always mean an open kitchen. The hours listed were checked for this October 2026 update. Check the venue’s website on the day of your visit, especially on Sundays, public holidays and private event nights.

Set up throughout the holiday season on Grand’Place, the Ferris Wheel offers a breathtaking view over illuminated Lille. At its base, a magical winter scene with a giant Christmas tree and miniature chalets completes the picture. A moment to share with family or friends.
